Jasmine Tea
Jasmine tea, also known as jasmine-scented tea, is a type of flower tea. Its tea leaves are green tea, and even after removing the jasmine flowers in the finished product, it still belongs to the category of green tea. It has a history of over 1000 years.
The birthplace of jasmine tea in the world is Fuzhou, Fujian province. The aroma of Fuzhou jasmine tea perfectly combines with the fragrance of jasmine flowers, earning it the reputation of "the supreme taste of jasmine, ranked as the number one fragrance on earth." Jasmine tea is a major product among flower teas, with vast production areas, high yields, and abundant varieties.
During the Qing Dynasty, Fuzhou jasmine tea was designated as a tribute, and it has a history of over 150 years. The origin of Fuzhou jasmine tea can be traced back to the Han Dynasty. In the Song Dynasty, the comprehensive understanding of the fragrance and health benefits of tea by the medical scholars of the time led to a craze for scented teas, which facilitated the birth of Fuzhou jasmine tea. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Fuzhou jasmine tea has always been the country's diplomatic gift tea.
The production process of jasmine tea includes blending and scenting, allowing the tea leaves to absorb the fragrance of the flowers. The production of jasmine tea requires jasmine flowers to be delivered for scenting on the same night they are picked, so the distribution of jasmine tea production areas needs to be close to the jasmine flower production areas with convenient transportation.
The scenting process of jasmine tea is essentially the process of flowers releasing their fragrance and tea leaves absorbing it. Jasmine flowers release aromatic substances under the action of enzymes, temperature, water content, and oxygen, continuously emitting fragrance as the flowers open. The tea leaves absorb the fragrance through physical adsorption and simultaneously absorb a large amount of moisture. Complex chemical changes occur under warm and humid conditions, gradually transforming the tea liquor from green to bright yellow, and the taste from mild astringency to rich mellowness, forming the unique aroma, color, and flavor of flower tea.
There are numerous varieties of Chinese jasmine tea, including Guangxi jasmine tea, Fujian Zhenghe jasmine silver needle tea, Sichuan jasmine tea, and so on.
